Headword: Trugaios Athmoneus
Adler number: tau,1090
Translated headword: Trygaios of Athmonon
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Aristophanes [says this] in the sense of "a skilled vine-dresser, no malicious prosecutor or lover of litigation".[1] [He is referring] to the politically passive, and to the extent to which farmers, especially skilled ones, cherish political inactivity. And [the name] Trygaios [comes from] truga=n [to gather fruit] - apt for farmers, you see. And "Athmonian" [comes] from an Attic deme [called Athmonon].
Greek Original:

Note:
[1] Aristophanes, Peace 190-1 (web address 1), with comment from the scholia there. But hardly "in the sense of"; the quoted words simply present a thumbnail sketch of "Trygaios of Athmonon" and could not actually replace that phrase. The passage is quoted already at mu 1027.
