Note:
See Herodotus 7.133-7 (web address 1) and, in the Suda, under xi 54 (where there is a note on the proper form of the name "Sperchis"). Both here and at beta 442 they are called Athenians; they were in fact Spartans - a mistake which could not have been made by anyone who had read Herodotus for themselves.
