[1] Similarly in other lexica; references at Photius rho202 Theodoridis. The headword, neuter singular of the adjective r(wgale/os, is taken to be quoted from Homer, Iliad 2.417; cf. the scholia there. (Again in Nicander, Theriaca 376, with scholion.)
[2] Grammatically feminine in this instance; see further, next note.
[3] Babrius 1.86, retelling Aesop's fable of the swollen fox; cf. epsilon 1884.
[4] Attributed to Herodian, *peri\ r(hmatikw=n o)noma/twn p. 899 Lentz, and also cited by ps.-Zonaras, Etymologicum Gudianum s.v. a)rgale/os, and Etymologicum Magnum s.v. deimale/os.
[5] konisaleos is mentioned in kappa 2040; and for daidaleos see delta 106. LSJ disobeys the exception in accentuation given here, but follows the accentuation given of daida/leos.
