Headword: Pseudatraphaxuos plea
Adler number: psi,45
Translated headword: full of false orach
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Meaning full of lies. Orach (a)tra/facus) [is] a kind of vegetable, which grows large quickly. So since Kleon had made false accusations against the knights and the council decided to believe him, [Aristophanes] said that the council has become 'full of false orach' -- [thereby he is] attacking Kleon as a liar, and upbraiding the council because they were easily and readily convinced by liars and slanderers, just as the plant grows.
