Meaning [from] a wretched [one]. Aristophanes in Plutus [uses the phrase]. Alternatively [he is] blaming [them] because of old-age.[1] And elsewhere: "when Theognis was contending, [Zeus] covered Thrace with much snow and froze the rivers at the same time." This man [Theognis] was a frigid tragic poet. So in satirizing him [Aristophanes] offers much snow [as an image] of this man's chilliness in his poems.[2]
