Headword: Parachratai
Adler number: pi,493
Translated headword: abuses, misuses
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[sc. Means he/she/it] much, vehemently has sexual intercourse, licentiously copulates. And it is also used in reference to each [= any] act done on the basis of excess.[1]
Concerning Origen [sc. it has been written]: "but you devised, by evil machination, [to make him] into a most disgraceful man. For they prepared an Ethiopian for him for abuse/misuse of the body."[2]
Greek Original:
Parachratai: polu, sphodrôs sunousiazei, akolastôs mignutai. eirêtai de kai epi hekastou pragmatos ek periousias genomenou. peri Ôrigenous: soi de kakomêchaniai eis aischrotaton andra epenoêthê. Aithiopa gar autôi pareskeuasan eis parachrêsin tou sômatos.
Notes:
[1] Likewise in the Synagoge, Photius (pi321 Theodoridis), and elsewhere. (NB: it is unclear whether the opening polu/ is part of the headword lemma or, as Adler punctuates, part of the gloss.) The headword -- third person singular, present indicative, of paraxra/omai -- is evidently extracted from somewhere. The rest of the entry uses the related noun: see below.
[2] Ostensibly George the Monk, Chronicon 457.21-458.2, also in the long Origen entry (omega 183); here however the first part is paraphrased and abbreviated.
