[2] If this phrase is the quotation that Adler took it to be, its source is uncertain: perhaps Arrian,
Anabasis 6.11.6 on Gaugamela (though, if so, the glossing is inappropriate); perhaps the epigram about to be quoted (where it occurs in the accusative). The very similar
ou)k o)nomasto/s occurs in
Homer (in the feminine accusative singular) and in Hesiod (in the masculine nominative plural).
