Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] deceives, alters.[1]
See a most/very accurate martyr-story about the bastardization of the sacred scriptures in the paraphrase of the blessed Logothete on the martyrdom of Saint Lucian. For he says as follows: "This holy Lucian saw that the holy books had incorporated much counterfeit [material], because time had corrupted much of their content, and there had been continuous changes in them from one thing to another, and on account of certain worthless men, who had been in the forefront of Hellenism and who tried to pervert their meaning and sow in them much that was illegitimate. So he re-edited the books, taking his cues from the Hebrew language, which he had learned quite well, as he put much effort into the correction of the holy books."[2]
