Translation: This man [was] an archon in
Athens long ago. He held office in the era of Dareios,[1] at a time when there was a heavy fall of snow and everything froze up, preventing anyone from travelling. Hence they used to call all cold things "Lakratideses".
Aristophanes [writes]: "for an ancient Lakratides the leg[s] are heavy".[2] That is, because of old age I cannot walk fast.

Notes:
The principal source of this material is a fragment of
Philochorus (FGrH 328 F202) preserved in the
scholia to
Aristophanes,
Acharnians 220. Develin (below) 48 dates Lakrateides -- the most authentic version of his name -- to the period 521/20-512/11.
Broadly similar material, more briefly, in
Hesychius lambda217 and
Photius lambda55 (where the editors prints the name as Lakratidas).
[1] King Dareios (Darius) I of Persia, reigned 522-486.

Aristophanes,
Acharnians 220.
