As a neuter [it is] Lepreon. But
Aristophanes proffered [it] as a masculine: "Eleian" - meaning the one in Elis - "Lepreus". It took this name because of the fact that their skin[3] peels [
lepein] - making them transparent; [or] from their mountain home; for there are rocks there mottled in color and translucent in appearance like that of lepers.[4]
