Headword: Klêrouchoi
Adler number: kappa,1790
Translated headword: cleruchs, plot-holders
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Cleruchs was the name for those whom [the] Athenians used to send out to the cities which they had taken, distributing plots of land to each of them. So Isocrates in [the] Panegyrikos [sc. uses the term].[1] Demosthenes in the [speech] On the Symmories would seem to call cleruchic the [names] of those sent out, doubtless in a cleruchy, to any other kind of territory. For how [could it be otherwise]? For it would not be possible for the man not resident in Athens to be a trierarch.
