[Meaning] not those related out of a clan and from blood, but those [being introduced] into the phratries from associated clans. These men are just like the demesmen and phratry-members, having an association by some custom. The clan contains 30 men. The phratries were called "trittyes," because [the Athenians] used to divide each of the tribes, four in number, into three parts; they made four tribes imitating the seasons of the year, and twelve phratries and trittyes, just like the months, and there were 30 clans in each phratry, just like the 365 days [of the year].
