"It is like this: there were two brothers. As one of them died and left an orphan child, he designated his brother as trustee for his son and manager of the money which he left to him. But [the brother] being impious, desiring to make the child's property his own, then lost both it and his own. When he asked to obtain some consideration and inclination towards the better, [the god] answered, 'Fool, he did not know how much more half [is] than whole.' He accepted this as education and cleansed his soul and adorned his life and adopted self-control and taught justice."[3]
