[Meaning something] uncared-for.[1] "Indeed, Bonos ... his mind was not inclined toward what was careless or more indolent; instead he employed an alacrity that was intense toward finding safety."[2]
"And other diseases he used to treat in the fashion of a careless lyre." Eunapius says [this].[3]
So [one can say] 'careless' or [= as an alternative to] out of tune.

Notes:
[1] The headword is neuter nominative/accusative singular of this adjective, presumably extracted from the quotation which immediately follows.
[2] Attributed by Angelo Mai (1782-1854) to Menander Protector, and accepted as such by Blockley (fr. 33.1). Translation is difficult since the sentence as it stands seems to have two nominative subjects: Bonos and his mind (nou=s). I have attempted to solve the problem by indicating a gap in the text, but that is sheer guesswork. For other entries involving Bonos see beta 495, epsilon 2310, upsilon 743.
[3] Eunapius fr. 96 FHG (4.54).
[4] Derived from Zosimus, Historia Nova 4.50.2, a longer excerpt of which is presented at theta 144.
