Headword: Etêsiai
Adler number: epsilon,3309
Translated headword: Etesian [winds], yearly [winds]
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] the winds that blow each year.[1]
They blow[2] in the high point of the summer, because the sun is higher in the sky. And since it takes a more northerly course it releases the moisture that is in the arctic regions, and as the moisture is released it evaporates and turns into winds. And from these arise the Etesians, which are borne from the northerly regions toward the southerly ones. This moisture collides with the loftier mountains of Ethiopia, and when a large amount of it is collected it gives rise to rains; and from these rains the Nile starts to flood[3] in the summer as it flows from southerly and dry regions.
