The headword is the present active infinitive of the verb
timwre/w, presumably extracted from a literary source, but, if so, not from the quotation given, where a form of the related noun that serves as the secondary lemma occurs.
For other forms of the same verb see
tau 636 and
tau 637.

On different meanings of words tau175.
a)nti\ tou=, ("meaning") is lacking, Adler reports, in ms A.
[2] According to Adler, Gaisford said that Valckenaer attributed this quotation to
Aelian, but Bernhardy recognized that Valckenaer was referring to
tau 636 and assigned this quotation
verisimilius ("more probably") to
Priscus. Bornmann makes it fr. 63 of
Priscus. Since the subject-matter here most probably pertains to the assassination of Flavius
Aetius (cf. n.3 below),
timwro/s might be a tacit reference to
Petronius Maximus, who is reported by John of
Antioch (fr.201.4-5 FHG, now 293.1-2 Roberto) to have taken revenge upon the emperor Valentinian III when Valentinian refused to appoint him to
Aetius' position of patrician. For more information regarding this episode, see the Bibliography below.
[3] Adler reports that
*)aeti/ou is a later copyist's addition in ms A. For another reference to "the murder of
Aetius" (
to\n fo/non *)aeti/ou), see
theta 389, especially n. 3.
