Headword: Ξυνεπιλαβεῖν
Adler number: xi,130
Translated headword: to take the side of
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
To fight on the same side with.[1] "[... that] the city is loyal to the Romans, so as to take the side of Lucullus in the war against Mithridates."[2]
Notes:
[1] The headword is aorist active infinitive of ξυνεπιλαμβάνω (cf. sigma 1496), presumably extracted from the quotation given.
[2] Bernhardy suggested that the city in question is Cyzicus (kappa 2627). The quotation itself -- referring to events of the C1 BCE; cf. generally lambda 688 -- was left unidentified by Adler, but latterly Favuzzi [see under alpha 1596] 210-211 has proposed an attribution on vocabulary-based grounds to John of Antioch.
