Adler number: xi,1
Translated headword: to grow weary carding wool
Vetting Status: high

The tiring of women's wrists through the continuous working of wool.
Greek Original:
*cana=n: ponei=n tou\s karpou\s ta\s gunai=kas tw=n xeirw=n dia\ sunexh= tw=n e)ri/wn e)rgasi/an.
Notes:
Same entry in Photius (xi9 Theodoridis); cf. Hesychius xi4 and Pollux 7.30.
A technically correct definition, as this verb, cana=n, derives from the commoner one cai/nein, to work with wool (etc.). In attested instances of it outside lexicography, however, it has a more general sense of being tired.
cf. xi 2 and xi 14, and see generally LSJ s.v. (web address 1).
