Adler number: upsilon,706
Translated headword: under-seating
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] the seat below.
Greek Original:
*(ufedri/a. h( katwte/rw kaqe/dra.
Notes:
Entry lacking, Adler reports, in ms F; glossing phrase lacking in A.
The headword noun is rare but its meaning is seen, plausibly enough, in LSJ s.v. as the opposite of proedria (pi 2379, pi 2381); cf. Gregory of Nazianzus, Funeral Oration for Basil of Caesarea 27.2 and Against the Emperor Julian (PG 35 648.29). If so, the present gloss's 'below' needs to be taken figuratively, i.e. of inferior prestige (and in fact, literally, higher up).
