Headword: *qh/lunoi
Adler number: theta,337
Translated headword: effeminate
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning they who are] quiet.
Greek Original:
*qh/lunoi: h(/suxoi.
Notes:
= Synagoge theta72; Photius, Lexicon theta160 (where Theodoridis follows Cobet in preferring the accentuation qhlu/noi); ps.-Zonaras 1041.1. This form, the nominative plural masculine/feminine of the adjective qhlu/nous (lit. 'feminine-minded') is unattested elsewhere.
From this entry (or a parallel entry in another lexicon) Gennadios Scholarios, Grammatica 2.454.27 seems to invent a back-formation of a nominative singular qh/lunos, which he glosses with the corresponding form of h(/suxos.
The only attestations of any form of the headword are in (?)Aeschylus, Prometheus Bound 1003 (web address 1) and related commentary (nominative singular), and Manetho, Apotelesmatica 4.86 (accusative plural).
