Headword: Θέμιστος
Adler number: theta,127
Translated headword: of right
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] of justice.
Greek Original:
Θέμιστος: δικαιοσύνης.
The headword, evidently extracted from somewhere, is the epic/Aeolic genitive singular of the noun θέμις ; cf. theta 114, theta 115, theta 117. C. Theodoridis in his Photius edition (vol.II p.LX) points out that in earlier lexica it was construed as an adjective in the nominative singular, and glossed with δίκαιος ; the Suda lexicographer, he therefore claims, was making a (good) textual conjecture in changing the gloss to δικαιοσύνης (for which cf. the scholia to Homer, Iliad 5.761: θέμιστα: δικαιοσύνην ).
