Headword: *traumati/as
Adler number: tau,914
Translated headword: wounded man
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] one who has been wounded.[1]
"But the wounded and exhausted men, who had neither power of flight nor will, [he] was attending to be guarded."[2]
Greek Original:
*traumati/as: tetrwme/nos. traumati/as de\ kai\ kamathrou/s, oi(=s ou)/te du/namis e)ge/neto fugh=s ou)/te bou/lhsis, fula/ttesqai e)qera/peue.
Notes:
[1] Likewise in the Synagoge (tau236) and Photius' Lexicon (tau422 Theodoridis), similarly already in Hesychius (tau1278) and elsewhere. Theodoridis suggests that the headword is extracted from Deuteronomy 21.1 LXX; there are, however, numerous other possibilities. (In the quotation which follows here in the Suda, this noun is in the accusative plural.)
[2] Quotation (transmitted, in Adler's view, via the Excerpta Constantini Porphyrogeniti) unidentifiable. The last two verbs have been variously emended by Aemilius Portus, Toup, and Bernhardy. For another instance of kamathrou/s, see kappa 278.
