Headword: Τῶν γὰρ ὑστάτων χωρίς
Adler number: tau,862
Translated headword: for apart from the last things
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
A proverb.
Greek Original:
Τῶν γὰρ ὑστάτων χωρίς: παροιμία.
Note:
Comica adespota fr. 725 Kock (now 543 K.-A.) -- but given there in the form found in Photius' Lexicon (tau597 Theodoridis), taken to come from Aelius Dionysius (tau34) i.e. with the final word as the noun χάρις "grace, gratitude" instead of the Suda's preposition χωρίς "apart from, without." Either way, its import is obscure.
Keywords: comedy; daily life; dialects, grammar, and etymology; ethics; proverbs
