Headword: *ta/lesin
Adler number: tau,50
Translated headword: payments (?)
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] expenses.
Greek Original:
*ta/lesin: a)nalw/masin.
Note:
= Photius tau31 Theodoridis. Both headword and gloss are apparently dative plural neuter nouns, although there is some uncertainty about the headword, which is transmitted as ta/lesin, otherwise unattested in any form. Theodoridis obelizes it and expresses approval for the view of Dobree and Cobet [and Casaubon before them, citing Demosthenes 6.30: see Adler's note] that it is a corruption of te/lesin ('payments'; hence the translation tentatively offered here for the headword). Although there is no precise parallel for this combination of headword and gloss, forms of the current gloss a)na/lwma ('expense') are frequently used in lexica and scholia to gloss forms of te/los ('payment'); e.g. Timaeus Platonic Lexicon 1004a5, Hesychius tau400.
