Headword: *tei=non
Adler number: tau,451
Translated headword: extending, prolonging, stretching, tending
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Also [sc. attested is the related verb] teinw|da/w, [which contracts into] teinw|dw=, a verb. From the [sc. notion of] extending the song.
Greek Original:
*tei=non. kai\ *teinw|da/w, teinw|dw=, r(h=ma. a)po\ tou= tei/nein th\n w)|dh/n.
Notes:
Entry lacking, Adler reports, in ms F.
Adler regards the unglossed headword as having come from Artemidorus 1.21, but surely there are likelier possibilities, e.g. Pindar, Nemean Odes 5.51 (which generated some scholia); also instances in e.g. Herodotus and Plato.
The verb teinw|da/w is unattested outside the Suda (the related noun teinw|do/s is doubtfully attested in ps.-Zonaras).
Keywords: dialects, grammar, and etymology; historiography; meter and music; philosophy; poetry
