A proper name. Best-attested as that of (?Antonius) Sospis, a rhetor in book 8 of the Table Talk (Quaestiones conviviales) of Plutarch; probably a Corinthian; expert on athletics. But note also the altar-priest S. mentioned in passing in Philostratus, Lives of the Sophists 2.11.
