Headword: *se/shre
Adler number: sigma,262
Translated headword: grins
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] yawns, gapes.
Greek Original:
*se/shre: ke/xhne, dih/noige.
Notes:
= Synagoge sigma54, Photius sigma154 Theodoridis (although both include a removeable nu at the end of the headword, which the Suda omits); cf. Hesychius sigma445. The headword is perfect active indicative, third person singular, of the verb *sai/rw. It is probably quoted from Alexis' comedy Isostasion: fr. 98.26 Kock (103.26 Kassel-Austin), preserved by Athenaeus. (The only other attestation outside lexicography is in Philostratus' Imagines.)
For other forms of the same verb see sigma 446 to sigma 448; cf. sigma 173.
