Headword: Συνοῖσον
Adler number: sigma,1653
Translated headword: [likely to] bring together, consensus
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] expedient.[1]
"Let it be made a rule among you to put higher value on consensus, and to choose peaceful [actions] in preference to war."[2]
And elsewhere: "for he himself by the capability[3] of his nature used to recognize most accurately what would be [a matter of] consensus."[4]
Notes:
[1] The headword is future participle of συμφέρω , neuter nominative/accusative singular. Same glossing (with the present participle) in the Synagoge and Photius; and cf. sigma 1652, tau 806. It might be extracted from either of the quotations given here, though the other lexica do not have them, and there are numerous other instances, beginning with Demosthenes 4.51.
[2] Part of Menander Protector fr. 12.5 Blockley.
[3] cf. epsilon 2154.
[4] Agathias, Histories 5.21.
