The four neuter plural adjectives given here -- one as headword, three as glosses -- are used in various philosophical and religious cults for the overriding doctrines to which adherents are bound to conform, e.g. Iamblichus (Vit. Pyth. 2.226.8), Plutarch (Quaest. conv. 668E, of the Elpistici) and Christian writers such as Eusebius and John Chrysostom.
The simple adjective is used in other contexts for that which holds together, esp. of mathematical proofs and causal explanations; see LSJ at web address 1.
