Notes:
The headword, a neuter noun in the nominative/accusative singular, may be a generic lexical reference or may be extracted from a literary source, perhaps from the quotation provided (where it appears as an accusative) or perhaps from somewhere else. The only other extant literary attestation of the form is at Lycophron, Alexandra 1347.
[1] For 'hide-robed' see Lycophron, Alexandra 652 (genitive), with the scholia thereto, which make the connection with Heracles. (For 'hide' itself, see Alexandra 1347.) Similar glossing of the headword in e.g. ps.-Herodian (On Orthography 3.2.584.11), Hesychius sigma1783, and the scholia to Apollonius Rhodius, Argonautica 4.1348, and to Nicander, Alexipharmaca 248; and most fully in the (post-Suda) Etymologicum Magnum 726.22-27.
[2] Greek Anthology 6.298.1-2 (Leonidas of Tarentum); the Cynic Sochares has died of starvation, and as a dedication Hunger hangs his simple personal items on a tamarisk bush; cf. Gow and Page (vol. I, 125), (vol. II, 363-364), and further extracts from this epigram at kappa 2725 and sigma 558. Gow and Page note (vol. II, 363) that the goatskin serves Sochares both as a cloak and as bedding.
