Sailor's exclamation, an encouragement to rowing. Aristophanes [writes]: "they knew nothing but to call out for barley-bread and rhuppapai!"[1]

Ῥυππαπαί: ἐπίφθεγμα ναυτικόν, παρακελευστικὸν κωπηλασίας. Ἀριστοφάνης: οὐκ ἠπίσταντ' εἰ μὴ μάζαν καλέσαι καὶ ῥυππαπαί. ὅτι ὁ ῥυπαρὸς διὰ τὴν ἄσκησιν σύνεγγύς πως ἐστι τῷ γλοιῷ. καὶ ζήτει ἐν τῷ γλοιός.
