I, 135) that the Anthologia Palatina transmits tou= to/ terw pai/ein, otherwise inscrutable, but for which both the formation of the letters and the context suggest a connection with r(wph/i+a (brushwood, shrubbery, a neuter noun in the nominative, vocative, and accusative plural). Lobeck suggested (prolegomena, 392) the emendation r(wpei=on (perhaps thicket), which Gow and Page (vol. II, 387) find attractive, given another instance of artificial lengthening at Greek Anthology 7.719 (Leonidas of Tarentum) and the prevalence of this metrical technique in Alexandrian poety (ibid., 319). Gow and Page are less enthusiastic (ibid., 387) about Lobeck's later suggestion that the line should read r(wph/ein; cf. Lobeck (elementa, 344-345).
