Headword: Ῥόχθει
Adler number: rho,236
Translated headword: was crashing, was dashing
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] was producing a sound.
Greek Original:
Ῥόχθει: ἦχον ἀπετέλει.
Notes:
The headword is imperfect (unaugmented) of ῥοχθέω , third person singular. Same glossing in Apollonius' Homeric Lexicon s.v., so surely quoted from Homer, Odyssey 5.402 (where it describes a wave battering the shore: web address 1).
For the gloss, cf. also the scholia to Homer, Odyssey 12.60, where the present tense ῥοχθεῖ occurs, similarly, of a wave hitting rocks (web address 2).
