[1] Same or similar glossing in other lexica; references at Photius rho161 Theodoridis. The headword is quoted from Euripides, Hippolytus 1172; cf. the scholia there. For the various meanings of it, the neuter noun ῥοπτρον , see LSJ s.v. The first one given there, 'the wood in a trap which falls when touched and catches the mouse', is attested in Archilochus, and is the relevant one here.
