[Meaning] cowards; for Xenarchus, the son of Sophron the mime-writer, used to satirize the Rhegians as cowards - persuaded [to do this] by Dionysius the tyrant.
And [there is] a proverb: 'more cowardly than a Rhegian', in reference to the excessively cowardly.[1]
Also [sc. attested is another proverb:] 'more cowardly than the peeper'.[2]
