Headword: *pareko/tei
Adler number: pi,528
Translated headword: was raging
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] was made angry.
Greek Original:
*pareko/tei: w)rgi/zeto.
Notes:
Same entry in the Synagoge, Lexica Segueriana 322.8, and Photius, Lexicon pi368 Theodoridis. The headword -- ostensibly third person singular, imperfect, of a verb parakote/w -- must be quoted from somewhere but is not independently attested.
Compare generally kappa 2156 (and kappa 2162). In the present instance para/ is prefixed to the verb kote/w, perhaps to show that the action was done wrongly or with malicious intent (cf. e.g. parakou/w, paragignw/skw) and thus, in the case of "being angry", suggesting a pointless or barbaric fit of rage. Alternatively, as in LSJ s.v., to be angry besides.
LSJ suggest a connection between this entry and the parakottei= (sic: i.e. apparently present tense) in Hesychius pi554.
