Πυθαγόρας ὁ Σάμιος, φιλόσοφος, διότι τὴν ἀλήθειαν ἠγόρευεν οὐχ ἧττον τοῦ Πυθίου. ὃς παρηγγύα τοῖς μαθηταῖς ἑκάστοτε ταῦτα λέγειν εἰς τὸν οἶκον εἰσιοῦσι: πῆ παρέβην; τί δ' ἔρεξα; τί μοι δέον οὐκ ἐτελέσθη;
