Headword: Πτερυλλίδων
Adler number: pi,3020
Translated headword: of little winged ones
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] of the locusts. [So called] because they have four wings.[1] And "of chicks" is said by some for "of chickens", in the Boeotian dialect.[2]
[1] The headword is corrupted from τετραπτερυλλίδων , "of the little four-winged ones" in Aristophanes, Acharnians 871; see further, next note.
[2] On ὀρταλίχων see omicron 638. The association with Boeotian is made in the scholia to Aristophanes, Acharnians 871 (from which the entire entry is taken), because the verse is spoken by a Theban.
