Headword: *pra/sion xrw=ma
Adler number: pi,2227
Translated headword: Green color
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
"Laying a charge against others of [sc. provoking] sedition or a liking for the Green faction, [...] Justinian destroyed [them]."[2]
Greek Original:
*pra/sion xrw=ma. a)/llois sta/sews a)formh\n h)\ me/rous *prasi/ou storgh\n *)ioustiniano\s e)penegkw\n a)nh/|rei.
Notes:
If the unglossed headword phrase is a two-word quotation -- rather than 'green' glossed as '(a) color' -- it occurs twice in this precise form in a work closely contemporary with the Suda, the C10 Chronographia of Theophanes Continuatus, and it refers there to the Green (literally Leek-Green: cf. pi 2226) faction in C6 Byzantium. (Both Justinian and his wife Theodora supported their opponents, the Blues.) However, note also e.g. Plato, Timaeus 68C (later quoted by Stobaeus), where prasion features in a long discussion of colors.
[2] An approximation of Procopius, Secret History 19.11; read e.g. *prasi/nou for the Suda's *prasi/ou.
