Headword: *pollei=s
Adler number: pi,1896
Translated headword: many
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[pollei=s means the same as] pollou/s.
Greek Original:
*pollei=s: pollou/s.
Notes:
cf. scholion on Homer, Iliad 20.313, where the masculine accusative plural of polu/s is pole/as (scanned as disyllabic: web address 1). Schmidt gives the lemma in Hesychius as pol[l]ei=s, casting doubt on the spelling with double lambda (double lambda should occur only in thematic forms of polu/s, from the stem poll-, as e.g. at pi 1920 and pi 1923).
cf. Etym. Magn. 679.56 and (according to Adler) the Ambrosian Lexicon.
