Adler number: pi,1276
Translated headword: sprawling
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] those[1] on wagons, either lying or those[2] who had been thrown [sc. there].
Greek Original:
*perirhdei=s: oi( e)pi\ o)xhma/twn, h)\ e)pikei/menoi, h)\ oi( e)rrimme/noi.
Notes:
The headword, presumably quoted from somewhere but not independently attested, is the masculine nominative plural of the adjective perirrhdh/s (sic: double rho). Same glossing in the Synagoge, Lexica Segueriana 340.6, and Photius pi749 Theodoridis, and cf. scholion on Homer, Odyssey 22.84, where the singular occurs; likewise Hesychius pi1846.
[1] Bernhardy conjectured oi(=on in place of oi(: "as if lying on or thrown onto wagons."
[2] Adler reports that mss GV omit this second oi(.
