Headword: Περιόψεται
Adler number: pi,1231
Translated headword: will overlook
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning he/she/it] would overlook, will despise.
Greek Original:
Περιόψεται: περιί̈δῃ, καταφρονήσει.
From commentary to Aristophanes, Clouds 124, where the headword appears (quoted more fully at alpha 2476); see the scholia ad loc., and cf. also Hesychius pi1797 (which provides only the second gloss found here) and Photius pi731 Theodoridis, which reads παρίδῃ ("would disregard") rather than the Suda's περιί̈δῃ ("would overlook"). In both cases the lexicographers are using an aorist subjunctive to gloss the headword, which is future middle indicative, third person singular.
