Headword: *perio/yetai
Adler number: pi,1231
Translated headword: will overlook
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] would overlook, will despise.
Greek Original:
*perio/yetai: perii/+dh|, katafronh/sei.
Note:
From commentary to Aristophanes, Clouds 124, where the headword appears (quoted more fully at alpha 2476); see the scholia ad loc., and cf. also Hesychius pi1797 (which provides only the second gloss found here) and Photius pi731 Theodoridis, which reads pari/dh| ("would disregard") rather than the Suda's perii/+dh| ("would overlook"). In both cases the lexicographers are using an aorist subjunctive to gloss the headword, which is future middle indicative, third person singular.
