Headword: *periei=pon
Adler number: pi,1148
Translated headword: they were treating
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] they behaved towards a certain person carefully and protectively.
Greek Original:
*periei=pon: peri/ tina h)=san qerapeutikw=s kai\ fulaktikw=s.
Notes:
Same entry in Timaeus' Platonic Lexicon and in Photius pi665 Theodoridis.
The headword -- imperfect of perie/pw (pi 1119), third person plural -- is evidently quoted from somewhere. A strong possibility (Ruhnken, Theodoridis) is Herodotus 7.181.3, an episode about the Persians dealing with the crew of a captured Aeginetan trireme: most of them they treated as slaves (periei=pon w(s a)ndra/poda), though the brave marine Pytheas got preferential treatment (perie/pontes eu)=).
