[2] Polybius fr. 233 Büttner-Wobst. Büttner-Wobst notes (544-545) that Ursinus (Fulvio Orsini, 1529-1600) attributed this fragment to Polybius. Büttner-Wobst further observes (544) that Hemsterhusius (Tiberius Hemsterhuys, 1685-1766) thought that the fragment might pertain to Hannibal's flight (189 BCE) to sanctuary at the Cretan city of Gortyn (Barrington Atlas map 60 grid C2), as described by Cornelius Nepos Hannibal, 9.1-4 (web address 1). Walbank notes (756) that Casaubon too associated this fragment with Hannibal's visit among the Gortynians and cites Polybius 21.45 (web address 2) as context.
[3] Polybius fr. 234 Büttner-Wobst. Büttner-Wobst notes (545) that Ursinus attributed this fragment also to Polybius. Büttner-Wobst associates (ibid.) the fragment with events beginning with Polybius 27.6.3 (web address 3). Walbank endorses (756, 301) Müller's connection of the fragment to Livy 42.49.2 (web address 4), describing the departure of Publius Licinius Crassus (consul 171 BCE) from Rome, and places the fragment right after Polybius 27.6.4 (web address 3).
