Headword: *forei=tai
Adler number: phi,590
Translated headword: is carried along
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] is carried around.
Greek Original:
*forei=tai: perife/retai.
Notes:
Same entry in the Synagoge (phi177) and in Photius' Lexicon (phi267 Theodoridis). The headword (third person singular, present middle/passive, of fore/w) must be evidently extracted from somewhere; probably, as Theodoridis implies, Aeschylus, Seven Against Thebes 362 (a choral passage with forei=tai, glossed in the scholia vetera as fe/retai).
For analogous entries, cf. kappa 2650, phi 588.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; poetry; tragedy
