As Adler notes, Gaisford and Bernhardy linked this quotation -- which she herself attributed to Aelian -- with the Persian-War episode recounted in Herodotus 9.5.2 (Lykides) and Demosthenes 18.204 (Kyrsilos, kappa 2770).
