Translation:
A proverb, which Hermippus mentions in Demesmen.[1]
Hippocleides the son of Teisander intended to marry Agariste, the daughter of the Sicyonian tyrant Cleisthenes, but on the very day of the marriage he danced excessively. When Cleisthenes had changed his mind and given his daughter to Megacles the son of Alcmeon, and told Hippocleides clearly that he had danced away the marriage to Agariste, he replied saying: "Hippocleides doesn't care."[2]

Notes:
Same entry in Photius, Lexicon omicron697 Theodoridis (taken to come from Pausanias the Atticist omicron42). Also in Zenobius 5.31 and other paroemiographers.
[1] Hermippus [a comic poet contemporary with Aristophanes] fr. 16 K.-A. (17 Kock).
[2] This famous story, from the first quarter of the C6 BCE, is related by Herodotus 6.129-130: web address 1 below. The usage of the phrase u(potuxw\n e)/fh, which is peculiar to Aesopic fable and novel (like u(polabw\n e)/fh) is a clear mark of the character of this anecdote as an exemplum.
