Headword: Οὐδένεια
Adler number: omicron,790
Translated headword: nobodies
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] the good-for-nothings[1] among men.
Also [sc. attested is] οὐδένεια ["nothingness"], [meaning]inhumanity.[2]
Greek Original:
Οὐδένες: οἱ οὐδαμινοὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων. καὶ Οὐδένεια, ἡ ἀπανθρωπία.
Notes:
Entry lacking, Adler reports, in mss AF.
[1] According to LSJ (s.v.), οὐδαμινοί is accented as a proparoxytone in Herodian, and their entry seems to adopt that accentuation although elsewhere (as here) it appears as an oxytone. Cf. omicron 776. For the word in other lexicographers, cf. Hesychius omicron1548.
[2] From omicron 797; see also alpha 2899.
Keywords: daily life; definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; ethics
