Adler number: omicron,486
Translated headword: roasting-place, kitchen

Translation:
[Meaning] a butcher-shop.
Greek Original:
Ὀπτανεῖον: τὸ μαγειρεῖον.
Notes:
Likewise in other lexica; references at Photius omicron420 Theodoridis.
The spelling ὀπτάνιον occurs in comedy, but ὀπτανεῖον would be expected from ὀπτανήϊον (cited by ps.-Herodian and the Etymologicum Magnum) as well as ὀπτανεύς "one who roasts."
There seems to be no connection with omicron 487 (q.v.).
Keywords: comedy; daily life; definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; food; trade and manufacture
