The Suda entry reflects Etymologicum Magnum 604.26 -- commenting on νηπιέῃ ἀλεγεινῃ̂ at Homer, Iliad 9.491 (web address 2) -- where the origin of the word νηπιέη is explained as a formation from the feminine of the possessive adjective νηπίειος [i.e. νηπιείη ] by dropping the latter iota.
